Scott, thank you for your kind words. And I couldn’t agree more. There are many aspects of video games, like film, that are only acknowledged by the most passionate particpants. Think about how many times we jump up from our seats as soon as the credits roll. We fail to see the details that make our experience.

Good writing! Videogame music will never slip beneath our notice, it's so compelling and various, (and it's everywhere in our aural space, now, too). But the music that helps drive our games can fall beneath critical note. This blog is a good remedy!

Thank you for sharing your memories, Wes. It’s incredible when you think about all of the ways game designers evoke emotional responses in the players.

The music from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 caused me such anxiety—especially when Tails bounced indefinitely between various contraptions. It got to the point where I would blast Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill so that I could tune out the ping-ping-bong of the game’s music.

YES to everything in this blog! The classic 8-bit songs are timeless... I think the Super Mario Bros theme is the catchiest song ever written... Followed at a close second by the Zelda theme. (Never liked the SMB 2 theme though...)

AND I actually played Moonwalker in the arcade when I was a kid! When he defeats the goons by dancing... classic.

Wow, video game music does bring back a lot of memories. I guess the music triggers the emotions you felt at that time...
